IT'S TIME TO UPDATE OUR WATER SYTEMS WITH NEW TECHNOLOGY FOR OFF THE GRID HOMES

Image
Our current hot water system is gravity fed, with a hot water tank in the attic, and 25 years old.   Graham did a huge amount of research into what the best hot water sytsem was put in.  Our criteria:  We wanted to pressurise our water sytsem.  The new hot water system needed to work with our existing systems.  Solar hot water, the wet back from our wood cooker in the kitchen, with a back up of electricity for those rare occasions of several cloudy days in a row in the winter.  He settled on a system from an Austraian Owned company WISELIVING .  Family owned and run for 40 years.  They were very easy to work with and extremely helpful.  After consultatioins with our plumber, the system we purchased consisted of: Mains Pressure MP Tank (copper) 315L which sits in the attic TV Auto Fill Valve with Gauge WiseLiving Roof Kit 30 tube collector manifold with pump kit Fit Coil Fitted - 9m Solar bottom coil Graham organised to pick it all up on our w...

Graham and Julie’s Camping Adventure - Part 3 - The Trip Home

Image
Thursday, we awoke to rumbling skies and intermittent showers, my thoughts flickered to our "Beer Box" vent cover, but Graham had assured me there was enough duct tape on it to withstand anything. We had a quick group chat with Callan and Melinda about the weather forecast of rain and the real threat of flash floods if we had heavy rain here. Flash flooding could potentially stop travel, and as lovely as it was in Arkaroola, with our jury-rigged vent cover, we decided on a quick departure. After all, we'd seen enough dry creek beds with giant gums to see how deep and wide the creeks could become. Admittedly, the thought of damp roads offering a dust-free drive was also rather irresistible.  Mindful that this would still be a bumpy, dusty road, I was careful in packing up,  snugging up cupboards with cushions and wrapping many things in bags, hopeful I'd  keep the dust clean-up at the en d of the trip to a minimum. We didn't get to a few planned hikes, but we conso...

2024 Graham and Julie's Camping Adventure - The Flinders Ranges - Part 2 - Arkaroola or Bust

We left Arkaroo Rock feeling up-lifted after our walk through beautiful scenery to the Arkaroo Rock Wall.  Now it was time to hook up the Geist and headed for Blinman on our next adventure.     Blinman is a very small village (22 people live there), which we had visited briefly on one of our day trips while at Wilpeena. Of note, the Miners Crib Café Bakery offers a “Miner’s Pasty”, stuffing one end with a wee bit of apple pie filling and identifying it with a sprinkling of sugar, so you know which end to start at.  A clever way to include a bit of desert within one pastry. From memory, the town has a post office, an old copper mine that does tours and doubles as the info centre, and a pub. Frankly, I didn’t notice what the other buildings were, but it was a tiny town.  More importantly for our trip, this was the start of the road to  The Arkaroola Wilderness Resort.     When we arrived at the road conditions sign for the...
